French Linen

A warmer, woodier take on clean laundry: cotton flower, white cedar and a whisper of vanilla. Lovely cold; throw reports are thin.

French Linen candle by Voluspa

When one disappointed buyer told Voluspa their Baltic Amber had no throw, customer service suggested French Linen as one of the brand's strongest candles. They bought it and found it barely louder. That's a single experience, but it's a useful corrective to the idea that this one fills a house.

Where French Linen does win people over is the scent itself. Voluspa lists cotton flower and white cedar over sun-dried vanilla bean, poured into Maison Noir's inky black glass, and the fans on Reddit insist it isn't the usual dryer-sheet linen. One describes it as woody and floral but clean; another, who hates strong vanilla, says the vanilla stays in the background. That second fan fell for it before ever lighting it: she kept catching a lovely smell around the house and traced it to an unlit mini tin. Her worry was that it was being discontinued, but it's still on Voluspa's site and at Nordstrom, where it holds 4.5 stars.

Given the throw reports, it makes most sense where you'll be close to it: a closet, a dresser, a small bedroom. A mini tin costs $16 and makes a fair test, and the three-wick sizes make more sense for a living room.
