Saijo Persimmon fans tend to measure their devotion in years. On Reddit, one has kept it among their favorite home fragrances for more than a decade and always has a backup in the closet. A beauty blogger who bought it in every format from votive to tin said that if one candle scent ever bankrupted her, this would be it. Under a candle shop's best-sellers video, two separate commenters stopped by just to say it's still their favorite.
The notes today are persimmon, peach and jasmine; older descriptions add nectarine, red currant and cassis, and that's roughly how fans describe it, a juicy orchard fruit with the peach out front and a soft floral edge. Someone fresh to it on Reddit called it heavenly and juicy, the kind of candle that feels expensive. The blogger found it airy enough for July and deep enough for January, and most people seem to burn it year-round with a lean toward spring.
It's also one of the line's more reliable performers. That Reddit newcomer got good scent even from a single wick. A reviewer with the 2-wick tin needed a few minutes for it to bloom, then could smell it from the bedroom, used it to chase cleaning-product smells out of a new apartment, and got an even pool with no soot or tunneling. A Walmart reviewer says the 3-wick tin fills the space evenly, and another Voluspa regular found the little tins strong both cold and lit.
There used to be a matching body mist, and its loss still stings. A Reddit thread hunting for a perfume dupe drew a fan who wore it every day and has emailed the brand pleading for a comeback; the hand lotion remains, and at least one indie perfumer sells an "inspired by" version.
The tins are the bargains, $16 for the mini and $32 with three wicks; a Classic jar costs $38, and the 5-wick hearth tops out at $250. Retail reviews sit around 4.8 stars at Nordstrom.
