Silver Birch Peppercorn divides people along one line: does it smell like expensive men's cologne or the cheap kind? A YouTube reviewer who got the Classic as a free gift with an order, and admits she would never have picked it herself, came away calling it sophisticated, the sort of scent you'd expect drifting through a fancy hotel at the holidays. On Reddit, someone who has liked every other Voluspa they've tried compared it to bargain-bin aftershave and threw it out, and a second commenter binned a sample after twenty minutes in the bathroom.
Voluspa lists cardamom, pink peppercorn and birchwood, with tobacco, honey and tonka in the fuller description. What people report is dry spice and tobacco over a cool tree note with none of the sappy sweetness of a Christmas candle; a Walmart buyer singles out the cardamom. The honey barely registers, and the tonka reads as earthy, unsweetened vanilla.
Like most Voluspa, it gets louder with every added wick. That YouTuber rated the single-wick Classic about a seven in a small powder room and a four or five in open spaces, with a tidy burn throughout: no soot, hardly any mushrooming, five or six hours at a stretch without trouble. A decade-long Voluspa loyalist keeps one on a candle warmer and smells it through the whole house.
Test it before you commit. One buyer loved a trial-size tin, then bought the 18 oz jar and a reed diffuser and now feels stuck with both. Spend $16 on a mini tin first; the Large Jar costs $44. Only 14 people have rated it on Amazon, at 4.4 stars, barely past our cutoff for a Glow Score, which lands at 8.8. Its season runs from the first cold snap through the holidays.
