The first time one longtime fan lit her 5-wick hearth of Tahitian Coconut Vanilla, she gave it eight hours and still went to bed with a wide ring of unmelted wax. A ten-hour burn the next day didn't fix it, the tunnel kept coming back, and Voluspa's customer service told her the candle looked fine. She ended up carving out the stubborn edge and melting the scraps in a wax warmer, and in the same breath says she'd rebuy it in a heartbeat. That's most of what you need to know: the scent earns a lot of forgiveness.
Why people forgive it
That reviewer, a YouTuber who first met the scent in a Sephora sampler trio during its Sephora-exclusive days, gives the best description going. White peach comes first, sweet but never cloying; the coconut reads like fresh coconut meat rather than creamy milk; the vanilla is a true bean, nothing like French vanilla. The jasmine and orange blossom in Voluspa's story never show up for her, though a faint pistachio nuttiness does, and now and then a lemonade-like brightness. Guests compliment it constantly. Nordstrom reviewers call it the most genuine coconut they've smelled, soft enough for any room, and Bloomingdale's shoppers keep reaching for the word vacation.
Not everyone is sold. One Reddit regular names it as the Voluspa they found awful, and a Canadian candle YouTuber who tried the single-wick jar got a lovely vanilla he could barely smell once it was lit.
Big format, big throw
In the hearth, throw isn't the issue: that first reviewer rates it close to a nine and says it fills her open-plan downstairs and drifts up the stairs. Her advice is to clear a whole day, ten or even twelve hours, for the first burn. Commenters under her video add their own fixes, like foil or a metal candle topper over the last half hour or so of a burn to coax the edges in, and one viewer reports the same uneven melt in an ordinary large jar.
Voluspa's 18 oz jar alone carries thousands of reviews averaging 4.6 stars, at $38 for a rated 100 hours; the $24 Small Jar is the low-commitment way in, and the other sizes run from a $16 tin up to $250 for the 5-wick. Whichever you choose, it's the rare candle people keep forgiving.
