Burning Woods

A campfire with pine trees around it: soft, woody smoke rather than charred logs. Fans burn it in bedrooms; the multi-wick sizes do the work.

Burning Woods candle by Voluspa

Line Burning Woods up against Diptyque's Feu de Bois and Reddit's smoke lovers will tell you which one wins. In a side-by-side thread on smoky candles, the poster found the Diptyque deep and properly burnt, while Voluspa's version (like LAFCO's) brings a layer of trees along with the smoke. One commenter liked it fine but found it too much forest; another just gave it a fire emoji. That's the honest frame: this is a campfire in a pine wood, not a hearth full of charred logs.

Smoke, softly

It joined Voluspa's black-and-white Maison collection a few years ago, with notes of smoky cedar, embers and Himalayan juniper, and a longer description that adds fir balsam, sage, cade and a "mist" of patchouli. A candle YouTuber thinks mist is exactly the right word: nothing heavy or dense, a subtle wood fire with juniper and balsam drifting through, and a reminder of Bath & Body Works' long-gone Fireplace candle. Another reviewer gets smoke that's warm from the cedar and a little sharp from the juniper, and warns that smoke-averse noses should pass. On Reddit, one fan says it absolutely smells like a campfire, and another calls it their favorite scent ever and burns it in the bedroom next to Moso Bamboo.

How much it carries

Not a lot, by most accounts. The YouTuber's 3-wick tin struggled through its first couple of burns, with wicks slow to catch, until she moved it into a hurricane; after that it pooled deep and she rated the throw a six or seven out of ten. Others had less luck. A YouTube commenter says her 30 oz Luxe jar never threw at all and sends smoke fans to Kringle's Bourbon Bonfire instead, and a Redditor finds Voluspa's smoky scents in general really light. On the other side, an Anthropologie reviewer says it fills a husband's home office with a cozy, woodsy throw.

It's a bedroom, study or office candle, then, and more wicks help. A 3-wick tin runs $32 (the YouTuber paid $28 at her nail salon), a Classic in 9.5 oz costs $38, an 18 oz single wick in black glass $40, and the three-wick Luxe $90. It's a fall and winter candle for nearly everyone who mentions it.

Is Burning Woods worth it?

It has no Glow Score yet: a score needs the candle's own Amazon rating, and it doesn't have one yet. The Mini Tin costs $16 and burns 25 hours; the 5-Wick Hearth burns up to 250 hours for $250.
